Forum: web Subject: Difference b/w crawl time in wayback interface and in the actual display of archived pages

I've observed that the URL for a archived page shown in the wayback listing of archived pages is often one date and time but yet when you click on the link you get a copy of the page from a different date and time (as discerned from looking at the URL of the actual page that is displayed in the browser).

That is, the wayback may show a copy of a page from Dec 2, 1998 and the URL for the link bound to this date has Dec 2, 98 encoded in it. However, when you click on this link, the URL is transformed to a slightly different URL with a different data and time encoded into it. The date/time encoded in the URL visible in the wayback interface and the date/time encoded in the URL that actually displays when you follow the link in the wayback interface can different by hours, days, or even weeks.

Why is this? What is the relationship b/w the date/time encoded in the link to a page in the wayback interface and the data/time encoded in the URL that actually displays?

Thanks for the help...
